Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect in the first session?

The first session is about getting to know you and understanding what’s bringing you in. We’ll talk about what’s been hard, what you’re hoping for, and what support might look like. There’s no pressure to share everything at once—we go at your pace.

Do I need to know exactly what’s “wrong” before starting therapy?

Not at all. Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to put things into words. Part of the work is figuring that out together.

What types of concerns do you specialize in?

I work primarily with anxiety, burnout, ADHD, trauma, depression, substance use, life transitions, and relationship stress. I also support parents and individuals who feel emotionally overwhelmed or unsupported.

Do you work with neurodivergent clients?

Yes. I offer neurodiversity-affirming care for individuals with ADHD and those who may be exploring autism or related differences. Therapy is tailored to how your brain actually works, not how it “should” work.

What is your approach to therapy?

My approach is trauma-informed, relational, and practical. We focus on understanding your nervous system, building emotional safety, and developing tools that feel realistic and sustainable… at your pace… not overwhelming.

How long does therapy usually last?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some people come for short-term support around a specific issue, while others benefit from longer-term work. We’ll check in regularly to make sure therapy continues to meet your needs.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes, going into 2026 Modern Wellness will be exclusively virtual. Telehealth sessions are available to clients located in Wisconsin and can be a flexible option for those balancing busy schedules or caregiving responsibilities.

Do you accept insurance?

Insurance acceptance varies. Please reach out to discuss current options, private pay rates, and whether I’m a good fit for your coverage and needs.

What if therapy hasn’t helped me in the past?

That’s more common than people realize. Often it’s not that therapy doesn’t work—it’s that the approach, timing, or fit wasn’t right. We can talk about what didn’t feel helpful before and adjust accordingly.

Is everything I share confidential?

Yes, with limited exceptions required by law (such as risk of harm to yourself or others). Confidentiality and trust are foundational to therapy, and we’ll review this clearly in your first session.

How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

Feeling safe, understood, and respected matters. If you’re unsure, reaching out for an initial conversation can help you decide whether this feels like a good fit. It’s okay to ask questions and trust your instincts.

What if I’m not tech-savvy?

That’s completely okay. You don’t need to be “good with technology” to start therapy. I keep the process simple and will walk you through each step. If telehealth feels intimidating, we’ll take it one piece at a time so you can feel comfortable and supported.

What if I know you or someone in your family?

Your privacy and care are always the priority. If there’s any prior connection that could impact boundaries or confidentiality, we’ll talk about it openly. In some cases, familiarity can actually help people feel more comfortable opening up. If it’s determined that working together isn’t appropriate, I’ll support you with a referral so you can still receive the care you deserve.

Many of my clients have tried therapy before and felt misunderstood, rushed, or like they were “doing it wrong.” We’ll talk about what didn’t work and adjust the approach together.
